The Packers’ training camp competition is reshuffling their depth chart. Sort of.

Public depth charts don’t mean much, but they at least give us a glimpse into how the team is thinking as they careen toward the regular season. And right now it shows a team in flux.
Now, the Packers are supposed to be in flux right now. Every team is. That’s the whole point of training camp. You throw the team into controlled chaos for a month or so, play a couple of exhibition games, sort out a couple of injuries, and see what comes out the other side. That’s how you make a football team.
The depth chart is little more than a symptom of that process. But it’s still surprising in some ways. Who ends up where and how long they stay there is important, and a publicly released training camp depth chart is a noteworthy data point.
Does it mean Karl Brooks will actually start ahead of Javon Hargrave? Does it mean Anthony Belton is safe as the starter at right guard? No, of course not. But it gives us something to compare everything else to, and with news that Brandon Cisse (listed with the second teamers) is getting first team reps, it gives us an opening to ask what’s changed — or if the status quo is worth preserving at all.

This might be injury related, but it’s still good to see Cisse on the way up.
