Man, 21, dead after overnight stabbing in Hamilton; St. Catharines man charged in deadly attack

Hamilton cops say a 21-year-old man is dead after being found with stab wounds by a taxi driver in that city early Sunday morning.
In a news release issued Sunday, Hamilton Police said the man was found on Main St. W. near Frid St. at about 2:30 a.m.
The victim was taken to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators said they believed the man was involved in an “earlier altercation” near King St. W. and Paradise Rd. N.
The incident is being treated as a homicide.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the altercation or may have information about the investigation to call 905-546-4123.
Investigators are also asking anyone who travelled through the area between 2 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. to review any dashcam or video footage that could assist the investigation.
Scarborough storage building owned by city catches fire
A city-owned storage building in Scarborough was reportedly damaged by fire late Saturday night.
Toronto Fire crews responded at about 11 p.m. to the Kingston and Markham Rds. area for reports of a structure fire at the Cornell Campbell House, CP24 reported.
Firefighters said that upon arrival, they were met with heavy smoke and confirmed that the structure was on fire.
Officials said the blaze was quickly extinguished and didn’t spread to other structures.
There were no occupants inside the building at the time and that no injuries were reported.
Toronto Police said details about which structure caught fire were not immediately clear. Per CP24, they noted that it might have been a gazebo or barn.
They said that no one was at the scene when first responders arrived.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
St. Catharines man charged with second-degree murder
A St. Catharines man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with an alleged homicide on Friday morning.
Niagara Regional Police said officers were called to a home on Lakeshore Rd. just before noon for reports of an assault.
Police arrived to find a man with “traumatic injuries.” He was rushed to hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the victim.
A short while later, detectives located a man at a nearby residence who they believed was the perpetrator of the attack.
Brandon Marzec, 34, was charged with second-degree murder.
Police said that Marzec sustained an injury during the takedown and he was brought to hospital for treatment. The province’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, has been notified and has invoked its mandate.
Tow-truck fire in Brampton
A tow truck caught fire in a Brampton neighbourhood early Sunday morning, according to Peel cops.
Peel Regional Police responded to a fire in the Rocky Mountain Crescent-Eagleridge Dr. area at about 1 a.m.
Cops said that the vehicle involved appears to be a tow truck.
There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
