Mike McCarthy is completely transforming the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense for the better. But it may not be good news for Darnell Washington, who's seemingly getting less responsibility at training camp.

Washington, selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, quickly emerged as one of the league's top blocking tight ends. He took a huge step forward as a receiver in 2025, however, proving to be a complete mismatch against almost any defender hoping to cover or tackle him in the open field.
While Freiermuth's emergence is great news, Washington is more than just an extension of the offensive line, and the Steelers would be wise to utilize his massive stature as a pass catcher in addition to his blocking prowess.
