Newcastle United Contact Angelo Stiller as Midfield Rebuild Gathers Pace After Bruno Guimaraes Exit

Newcastle United have moved in the market for Angelo Stiller as they accelerate plans to reshape their midfield following Bruno Guimaraes’ expected departure. According to the Daily Mail, contact has been made over the Stuttgart midfielder, who has quickly become one of the standout options under consideration at St James’ Park.
This is a major summer of change on Tyneside. Anthony Gordon has gone to Barcelona, Sandro Tonali has joined Tottenham Hotspur, and Bruno Guimaraes is nearing a switch to Arsenal. In the dugout, Matthias Jaissle is now tasked with building a competitive side in difficult circumstances, with Newcastle seeking to recover from a deeply disappointing 2025/26 campaign that ended in 14th place and without European qualification.
Against that backdrop, the search for a ready-made midfielder feels urgent. Newcastle have brought in promising young players in Seun Steur and Aladji Bamba, but there is clear recognition internally that replacing a figure of Guimaraes’ quality and influence requires proven pedigree, not only potential.
Angelo Stiller Emerges as Key Newcastle United Target
Stiller’s profile fits much of what Newcastle need. The 24-year-old has developed impressively at Stuttgart and has earned wider attention through his Bundesliga displays and senior Germany involvement. His reputation has grown quickly, with many viewing him as a deep-lying midfielder capable of dictating tempo, progressing possession and bringing composure in high-pressure moments.
The report states Newcastle have enquired into the conditions of a deal. There is a £35m release clause in Stiller’s contract, although the situation is not entirely straightforward. Stuttgart can reportedly void that clause by paying the player £1.5m, which would then place the eventual fee firmly in their own hands. That detail could prove decisive, because it creates uncertainty around valuation and timing.

Newcastle are also monitoring Felix Nmecha, but Borussia Dortmund’s demands are presently seen as difficult. In practical terms, that may strengthen Stiller’s standing on the shortlist, particularly if Newcastle want a deal that can be progressed with clarity before the window reaches its final stages.
Matthias Jaissle Needs Midfield Clarity Quickly
There is a strong sense that Newcastle want to avoid a repeat of last summer, when drawn-out transfer business disrupted preparation and contributed to a poor season. Early exits for Gordon and Tonali were intended to create certainty and allow recruitment to move swiftly. Guimaraes’ late situation has complicated that strategy.
For Jaissle, the task is now obvious. He needs balance, athleticism and control restored to the centre of the pitch, and he needs it before the campaign begins in earnest. Stiller appears to offer many of those qualities, particularly for a side aiming to play with aggression and intelligence in possession.
There is still work to do before this develops into anything more advanced, but the contact itself is significant. Newcastle’s recruitment team have identified a serious candidate, and the coming days may reveal whether Stiller becomes the central piece of their midfield rebuild.
Our View
From a Newcastle United perspective, this report lands somewhere between encouraging and nerve-racking. Encouraging, because Angelo Stiller sounds like exactly the sort of midfielder the club should be targeting, young enough to improve, experienced enough to start, and technically gifted enough to help the team play with authority again.
The worry, of course, is that Newcastle have been here before. Supporters have seen key players leave, heard about strong interest in replacements, and then watched deals drag on while the squad goes into the season short. After everything that has happened this summer, there has to be urgency now. If Bruno Guimaraes is going, the replacement cannot arrive weeks later after points have already been dropped.
Stiller feels like a smart fit for Matthias Jaissle as well. If the new head coach wants intensity and cleaner build-up play, then signing a midfielder comfortable receiving the ball and moving it forward quickly should be a priority. Newcastle do not need a like-for-like Bruno replacement, because that is unrealistic. They need a new core, a different balance, and a player who can help the side reset.
Fans will also look at the reported £35m clause and think this is the kind of deal the club should be all over. If there is a complication in the structure, Newcastle must still find a way to be decisive. This squad has already lost too much quality to drift through another market. Get Stiller in, add one or two more first-team players, and suddenly the mood changes again.
