The 2025 Buffalo Bills’ season has been written, but the book is incomplete. Before we cast our full attention toward the 2026 season, let’s take one last glance back over our shoulder for our annual look at the Plays That Defined the prior campaign.

For any newcomers, first and foremost; welcome! When it comes to the “rules” of this exercise, we’re not voting for our favorite highlight necessarily, but the one that best captures the essence of the game. Put differently, if you had to choose just one play to show someone to explain as much of the contest as possible, which would you choose?

Week 18: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills

Sometimes a game is more than a game. Sometimes a game is a milestone. Sometimes a game is a farewell. This is all of those things. The Buffalo Bills ended the 2025 regular season at home. Due to the standings, there would be no home playoff game. Unless you’ve been under a rock larger than a giant bison sculpture that shoots smoke out its nose and has glowing eyes, you might recall that not only was this the last game fans would see the Bills at home for the 2025 season; it was the last time they’d get to see a home game at THIS stadium… ever.

So while the game meant nothing for the standings, it was far from meaningless. The New York Jets came to town but not to play football. Buffalo’s backups demolished the Jets for a perfect send off. Due to how special this game is, I may arguably be breaking the rules with one of my choices. I guess it’s a good thing they’re my rules…

Bills Mafia had been begging for red helmets for forever and they were finally here. I don’t know if fans could hope for a better model for them than Josh Allen. Sure it was just one snap, but it was awesome!

This is it. The last time there was a professional football play at Rich/Ralph Wilson/New Era/Highmark.

Some of the fun stuff

Yeah, I won’t be letting you vote for this as it’s many plays. It’s hard to pick which one was most fun, so I tossed in a bunch. I also think the other options are more fitting for this game. I do have one more final “play” for consideration though.

Farewell from the fans

I’ve walked by this hill tons of times. Tons. I’ve threatened to slide down it many of those times (and likely every time there was snow on it). It was my last shot, so I took it. This is my face on the “play,” but it’s for all the fans who wanted one last hurrah.
