FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Gabe Jacas wasted no time making an impact during his short time on the field after coming off the non-football injury list.

The rookie edge defender took the field for his first padded practice on Saturday, and when the team broke out into position groups for the individual drills, Jacas ended up knocking over outside linebackers coach Mike Smith.

“That wasn’t my intention, but when you’re just getting off the ball, violent, stuff like that happens,” Jacas said. “That’s what happens when you’re a coach like Mike Smith, who is a very good coach.”

"He was just surprised that I did that," Jacas added. "But he just got back up and went on with the day."

The move certainly caught the attention of veteran edge defender Dre'Mont Jones.

“Knock over your position coach, man. Get ready for the game,” Jones said. “Get ready for practice, man. You gotta do what you gotta do. I would have done it too, if I needed to.”

And in the end, it was all in fun as Smith got some revenge on Jacas two days later.

"Yeah, he got me back," Jacas simply said with a huge smile on his face.
