The Phoenix Mercury added another sure-fire scorer after acquiring Kesley Plum in a trade with the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday. The Mercury did not pass up the chance to get the prolific guard, who has averaged at least 15 points in each of the last five seasons.
Plum, who is nearing a return from her leg injury, could make her debut for Phoenix on Monday against the Chicago Sky.
On Sunday, Plum wrote a farewell message for the Sparks, expressing her gratitude to the organization, the fans, and the community for making Los Angeles “feel like home” for the last two years.

“Phoenix, I can’t wait to get to The Valley. Let’s get it!” added the five-time All-Star.

Plum’s emotional post drew comments from her now-former teammates, including Cameron Brink and Kate Martin. Brink posted three heart emojis, while Martin wrote: “Keep being you!”
The Sparks, meanwhile, left four heart emojis.
In 55 games in Los Angeles, the 31-year-old Plum averaged 20.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.2 steals. She was putting up career-highs across the board of 19.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.7 steals in 12 games this season before being shipped to the Mercury.
She has not seen action since June 21 due to her leg injury. She missed three games earlier in the season due to an ankle injury.
Plum is expected to help steer the Mercury back on the right track and make a late push for the playoffs, joining the veteran trio of Alyssa Thomas, Kahleah Copper, and DeWanna Bonner. They are tied with the Portland Fire for 11th place in the team standings with identical 11-19 records.
