Should Steph Curry Be Planning Exit Strategy From Warriors?

When the Golden State Warriors won the NBA championship in 2022, it felt like the franchise was going to be contenders for years to come. Instead, the Warriors saw themselves never getting past the second round again after winning a title.

Year after year, the Golden State Warriors have somehow gotten worse, and that's with Steph Curry still capable of averaging over 25 points a game.

The franchise has failed to capitalize on acquiring numerous All-Star-caliber players, whether it's Paul George, Lauri Markkanen, LeBron James, or Kawhi Leonard. So now, the question remains: is it time for Steph Curry to go?

Kendrick Perkins Urges Steph Curry to Plan Exit Strategy

While speaking on ESPN's 'NBA Today', Kendrick Perkins urged Steph Curry to start planning his exit strategy from the Golden State Warriors.

"Over the last three years, the Warriors have been in the play-in tournament," Perkins said. "This year, the way that the West is stacked up, they're going to be a play-in tournament team again."

Steph Curry is 38 years old, and the Warriors aren't giving him a championship roster right now or anytime soon. He's won four championships and has seen what a championship roster looks like, and that's why Perkins believes that the greatest shooter of all-time can't waste any more time. 

Perkins did add that he wanted Steph Curry to retire in a Golden State Warriors uniform, but that he also wanted Curry to play meaningful basketball. Unfortunately, that's not just going to happen with the Warriors' current plans.

Should Steph Curry Actually Leave?

In all honesty, if Steph Curry actually wants to compete for an NBA championship, then he should leave the Golden State Warriors. The only notable players the team has managed to acquire in the past few years are an aging Chris Paul and an injury-prone Kristaps Porziņģis. 

Even the Warriors' attempt at trading Jonathan Kuminga failed flat on what they could have gotten. The team held out for what felt like an eternity on trading Kuminga, stunted his development, and then didn't even get a proper number two for the young star.

The team could have reportedly gotten in on the Jaylen Brown sweepstakes and declined to do that as well. If they really wanted to acquire LeBron James, Anthony Davis, or Jaylen Brown, it seems as if there was a legitimate avenue to do so.

Instead, the Golden State Warriors have clearly shown that they have no interest in winning now while Steph Curry is on the roster. The Warriors are a franchise looking toward the future, and it's quite frankly disrespectful to a four-time NBA champion who is still capable of playing at an All-NBA level.

Ideally, it would be nice to see Steph Curry retire in a Golden State Warriors jersey, but at some point, they have to provide him with the same level of respect when it comes to a roster.
