Jaguars late Day 3 draft gaining early momentum in training camp

One of the Jacksonville Jaguars' late-round draft picks has flashed in the early going of training camp practices.

In the seventh round of this year's draft, the Jaguars selected Washington defensive end Zach Durfee. On Day 2 of training camp, Jamal St. Cyr of News4Jax wrote that Durfee earned a "quick win" that would have led to a sack on Trevor Lawrence.
"He flashed some pass rush juice," St. Cyr wrote.
John Shipley of Jaguars on SI wrote that Durfee made a play in the run game as well during Wednesday's practice.
"Durfee also played a role in the Jaguars mostly shutting down the offense's running game," Shipley wrote, "with the rookie defensive end recording a tackle at the line of scrimmage that would have been close to an official tackle for loss in a real game."
Durfee is competing for potential rotational snaps at defensive end this season as well as a roster spot. Although we saw Jacksonville roster six defensive ends on last year's initial 53-man, it's not a given that a team will keep that many at this position either. Durfee's roster spot will have to be earned.
That said, his strong start to training camp and play during offseason programs have positioned Durfee well early on. His ability to contribute on special teams will likely be important as well.
"He practices super hard, plays hard all the time," said Anthony Campanile during minicamp. "I think Zach's a really good pass rusher, but he's stout at the point of attack, so he can set a firm edge in the run game. He's just a big guy that's really, really athletic."
The 2025 season was a breakout year for Durfee at Washington, who produced 35 pressures after having only 10 the season prior. Behind that production was Durfee's ability to win quickly, ranking 11th in pass rush win rate among defensive ends.
