Bengals free agent off to rocky start with new team

· Yahoo Sports

The Cincinnati Bengals made some tough choices with free agents this offseason, especially at the defensive end position.

Trey Henrickson stole the show in that regard, but the Bengals also quietly let Joseph Ossai slip to free agency. The Bengals’ third-round pick in 2021 wound up signing with the New York Jets on a three-year deal worth $36 million.

Ossai, though, has started his first training camp with the Jets on the PUP list due to an undisclosed injury.

Availability was one of the reasons the Bengals chose to go a different direction on the edge despite Ossai still only being 26 years old with big upside. His 616 snaps last year were a career-high and he’s technically started just 12 games over five seasons, appearing in 61 overall.

Unfortunate for Ossai, while the Bengals push forward with free-agent signee Boye Mafe and first-round products Shemar Stewart and Myles Murphy, plus second-round rookie Cashius Howell.
