AfterShocks, JHX come back to advance in TBT

WICHITA, KAN. (KSWN) — The AfterShocks struggled out of the gate in their win-or-go home game against the Enchantment Friday night but used their championship DNA to advance in the TBT.

The Wichita State alums trailed by as many as 12 in the first quarter, but there was plenty of time for the Shox to work their way back into it. They trimmed the deficit to seven at the break, and then WSU nearly doubled up the New Mexico squad 24-13 in the third to surge in front on its way to a 73-67 win.
Marcus Keene led the way with 23, and QJ Peterson added 16, including the game-winner.
“That’s why we signed QJ,” Keene said. “He’s a big shot maker like me as well. And when they put a lot, it’s hard to put a lot of pressure on me and him especially when we out there. So, he came up big tonight and that’s what he’s here for.”
The AfterShocks will meet JHX Hoops Monday at Koch Arena as the KU alums, who stage yet another comeback to stun Purple Reign and advance to the quarterfinals. K-State scored the game’s first 12 points and led by 10 with less than seven minutes to play, but the Jayhawks outscored them 13-2 in the Elam Ending to claim a 62-55 to secure its spot in the next round thanks to 25 points from Zeke Mayo.
“We were kind of in the flow of things a lot,” Mayo said. “So, whenever we had the chance, we tried to put Mike [Beasley], getting Mike in as many actions as we could and then nine times out of 10 it was a ball screen. He wanted to stay flat and flat-footed, and I tried to take advantage of that.”
The game is Monday at 8 p.m.
