A potential breakout defender for the Carolina Panthers here in 2026 may have just suffered a devastating setback.

According to numerous reports from the opening session of training camp on Thursday, second-year outside linebacker Nic Scourton was carted off the practice field after sustaining what appeared to be a lower body injury. The injury occurred during team drills.

Scourton, a standout and first-team All-SEC selection at Texas A&M University in 2024, was taken by the Panthers in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He'd go on to make eight starts over 17 games during the regular season—tying for a team-leading 5.0 sacks while also compiling 47 combined tackles (seven for a loss), nine quarterback hits and a forced fumble.

The 21-year-old has been projected to keep up his starting role into this upcoming campaign alongside free-agent acquisition and fellow pass rusher Jaelan Phillips.
