Their offense has fair worries that needed some fixing leading up to their Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Coach Nick Sirianni hopes to change that, and it all started with reinforcing their weapons. This is why they pulled the trigger on trading for Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers to help Devonta Smith. How does the new Eagles wide receiver feel amid all of this? Wicks unveils true feelings on Eagles-Packers trade and Smith team-up
The Eagles traded a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Packers for Dontayvion Wicks. Coach Nick Sirianni and the front office also took the liberty of giving their new wide receiver a one-year extension worth $12.5 million.
Clearly, there is a lot of pressure on Wicks' shoulders. The fact that he also has to play alongside Devonta Smith does not help at all. While there is a sufficient amount of worry mixed with excitement in the eyes of Eagles fans, Wicks does not seem to be bothered. He outlined his feelings after getting traded from the Packers to the Eagles and getting the extension, via Grant Gordon of NFL.com.
"I just want to say I'm blessed to be in this position. It just showed me the value and love that Philly has for me, and I want to come out and show what I'm worth. We're all still learning the offense and the new ways of doing things here around Philly," he said. "I get some questions going into what I know, but we are all still learning. We are all getting better. It's not hard. It's just details," Wicks declared.
Wicks had a fair showing with the Packers before the trade. In his third year in the NFL, he played 14 games and started in seven fixtures. This got him 30 receptions, 332 passing yards, and two receiving touchdowns. He hopes to learn a lot from Smith and even make a great fourth-year leap.
"Smitty, he's from Louisiana. I'm from Louisiana. Growing up, I knew about Smitty. And me and Smitty talked before I got here. Being here with him, it's a great guy to look up to... And I feel that same way about myself. I want to be the best I can be, fill in the void. Whatever the team asks me to do, I step up and play that role. I just think of it as capitalizing on the opportunity that's given to me. We never know what happens throughout the season. Just taking it day by day and keep on working to be the best," the new Eagles receiver added.
The Eagles are going to need Wicks to be good as fast as possible. Coach Sirianni only managed to get his air attack to produce 3,498 receiving yards, which ranked at a mere 22nd in all of the NFL. If they want to keep their hopes of a Super Bowl run alive for the 2026 season, the receivers will have to ball out.
