Lothar Matthäus understands Michael Olise wish to join Real Madrid, but doesn’t think Bayern Munich will budge

Bayern Munich and German national team great Lothar Matthäus says that he can “understand” Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise’s wish to join Real Madrid, but the player-turned-pundit does not think that the Bavarians will be receptive to the idea or even entertain it at all.

“Personally, I can understand wanting to play for Real Madrid. Every player wants to play for Real Madrid at some point. But Bayern won’t even entertain any talks. They’ll just laugh the headlines off. I estimate the possibility of Olise playing for Real Madrid next year to be practically zero. I think Bayern will extend his contract and increase his salary,” Matthäus told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That is a pretty forceful statement from Matthäus, who is never short on opinions. However, even if Bayern Munich does not sell Olise, the specter of him wanting an exit could become a problem in multiple ways.
Fans will — no doubt — be hoping this issue is resolved and that Olise stays for years to come with minimal distractions as the team prepares for the 2026/27 season.
