Jordan Spieth withdraws from 3M Open field after recent commitment

Those coming to TPC Twin Cities this week for the 3M Open will not get the chance to see Jordan Spieth.

Friday’s official field release did not feature one of golf’s biggest names, despite the tournament announcing its commitment from Spieth via social media just 10 days prior. Those posts have since been removed from the tournament’s account.

The tournament listed Spieth as a “late withdrawal” on Friday evening.

Exactly why Spieth reversed course is unknown. It could be due to an injury or simply a change of heart.

He could still use the FedEx Cup points available this week in Blaine as he attempts to improve his standing in the PGA Tour’s season-long race prior to the playoffs.

But the three-time major champion’s form is currently out of sorts. He hasn’t finished in the top 55 in any of his last five starts, lowlighted by a missed cut at this weekend’s Open Championship in which he shot 10-over par in two days, putting him in a tie for sixth-to-last at Royal Birkdale — the site of his 2017 Open Championship victory.

Still, Spieth remains one of the sports most well-known figures. His presence in Minnesota would’ve been a boon for the local tour stop. Spieth still has never teed it up at the 3M Open.
