The Golden State Warriors are poised to fight for former Los Angeles Lakers forward and four-time NBA champion LeBron James until the very end.

On Thursday, Warriors star guard Stephen Curry made a convincing pitch to James during the annual American Century Championship, which could help Golden State make a breakthrough in their pursuit of the 41-year-old 22-time All-Star.

“The pitch is: Do you want to play good basketball and be around people who know how to play the game,” Curry said. “Raise our floor, competitiveness...There’s good golf in the Bay.”

A day later, James received a $6 million Warriors free agent update from ESPN’s Bobby Marks.

“Barring trading Moses Moody's $12.5 million contract, Golden State has the $3.9 million veterans exception available to offer James,” Marks wrote Friday.

“A Moody trade would put the Warriors $38 million below the first apron hard cap. If Draymond Green signed in the $20 million to $22 million range, the Warriors would then have the flexibility to sign players to the veterans minimum and still offer $6 million to James.”

Considering that ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently reported that James is prioritizing happiness over money at this stage of his career, accepting a $6 million deal with the Warriors appears to be a logical option for the former Cleveland Cavaliers superstar.

Playing alongside arguably the best floor spacer of all time in Curry would, in all likelihood, bring James tremendous joy. James and Curry have expressed mutual respect in the past, and with both contributors nearing the end of their illustrious careers, sharing the floor in the Bay could be just what the doctor ordered for the future Hall of Fame tandem.

It’ll be up to the Warriors to close the deal before the start of the new NBA season, though.
