With the 25th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, the Brewers have selected shortstop Trey Ebel out of Corona High School (CA). If that sounds familiar, it’s because Milwaukee selected his older brother, Brady Ebel, out of the same school with the 32nd overall pick in last year’s draft.

This spring, during his senior season at Corona, Ebel slashed .417/.496/.796 (45-for-108) with 10 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 47 RBI, and 37 runs scored in 31 games. According to MLB Pipeline, some scouts believe Trey is a more complete player than Brady was at the time of his draft. He projects as a slightly more polished hitter, though evaluators see him as roughly a 20-home-run hitter at the major league level. MLB Pipeline’s grades for the two brothers are nearly identical, with Trey earning a slightly better 55-grade hit tool (compared to Brady’s 50), while Brady owns the edge with a 60-grade arm (compared to Trey’s 55).

Ebel was Pipeline’s No. 107 draft prospect, making this a bit of a reach on paper. The Brewers entered the draft with the 25th-largest bonus pool, so selecting an underslot player here could give them additional flexibility later in the draft, but that doesn’t mean this is a bad pick. Trey is regarded as the stronger defensive shortstop of the two brothers and, at just 17 years old, has already shown an advanced approach at the plate. Pipeline wrote that the younger Ebel has “more quality at-bats than just about any high school hitter.” He’s also shown an impressive work ethic, even training with fellow Corona High School alum Brice Turang to improve his speed. That sounds like a Brewer to me.

Ebel is committed to Texas A&M, but as a first-round pick he’s widely expected to sign with Milwaukee. Be sure to check our draft signing tracker for updates once the draft wraps up.
