WARMINGTON: Bus driver stabbed at TTC's Wilson Station could have been bigger story
· Toronto Sun

It’s not being treated as the biggest story, but what happened at Wilson Station on Wednesday could have easily been a murdered TTC employee.
Visit esporist.org for more information.
It all happened about 6:30 p.m. when a bus driver was stabbed. He was rushed to hospital, and a man was arrested at the scene.
Marvin Alfred, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113, told the Toronto Sun from the hospital that the driver was “cut up” and he is in “stable condition.”
Alfred said his member was “minding his own business” when he was approached and attacked.
While early reports said his member was stabbed in the arm, Alfred said the wounds are significant. He said the driver was surrounded by his family at hospital and receiving the support of the senior directors of the union.
Easily could have been murder
TTC sources say a box cutter was seen on the ground of the station along with an enormous amount of blood.
This was close.
“The thoughts of the entire organization are with the operator at this difficult time for a full recovery,” the TTC said in a statement. “All supports and counseling services are being extended to the employee.”
Toronto Police say 47-year-old Andrew Powell “is scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on July 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., room 105” charged with assault and assault with a weapon.
The charges have not been tested in court. But they are heading there.
“On July 8, at 6:29 p.m. police responded to an assault in progress call at Wilson Station,” said Const. Jaime Loomans. “It was reported that the bus driver was being assaulted by someone with a weapon … the TTC employee transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
TTC thanks police for fast response
TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said, “We thank Toronto Police for their quick work in apprehending a suspect” and “we will continue to share any information and evidence we have as police conduct their investigation.”
One TTC employee said Wednesday, “An operator on the 160 Bathurst North was attacked and sliced up pretty bad with a box cutter tonight on the Wilson platform.”
The employee added, “The whole lower level was full of police, ambulance, special constables one of our division managers who was on duty” and “there was blood all over the ground at the 160 platform.”
Scary stuff. Police and the TTC are certainly taking this seriously.
“The TTC is committed to keeping everyone safe while working or riding on our property and we continue our work to enhancing public safety,” they said.
It’s so important because these bus drivers, even when they are inside their protected glass, are so vulnerable to attack in a complicated world.
This very easily could have been a lot worse.
This is why I don’t think a bus driver being stabbed is a small story.
