Jordan Grant Joins Marquette Men’s Soccer As Associate Head Coach

· Yahoo Sports

It was reasonable to wonder if Marquette men’s soccer head coach David Korn was going to fill the vacancy on his staff after Calum Mallace moved from the MU men’s team to the MU women’s soccer team to become the new associate head coach under Chris Allen. That happened in early June, and with the 2026 season about two months away, you could see how it would be hard for David Korn to find a replacement on what very clearly was short notice.

And yet, on Monday, Marquette announced that Jordan Grant was joining the staff as associate head coach.

To the press release! Here’s what head coach David Korn had to say about his new employee:

“Jordan is a proven winner whose success has been evident throughout his career, both as a national championship-winning student-athlete, and as a coach at the Division I level,” Korn said. “He has gained invaluable experience working alongside outstanding head coaches while helping student-athletes and programs achieve excellence on and off the field. Jordan is a talented coach who will bring tremendous passion, energy, and commitment to the culture and values we are building at Marquette. His character, work ethic, and dedication to developing young people will have a lasting impact on our student-athletes as they grow as players, students and men.”

The national championship that Korn mentions there is from Grant’s time at Northern Kentucky, where the Norse won the 2010 NCAA Division 2 national championship. Because the press release notes that Grant graduated from Taylor University, I went and found the NKU box score: Yes, Grant played in the game. In fact, he scored his third goal of the season to put the Norse up 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

Grant got his Division 1 coaching start at Cincinnati, where he was a volunteer assistant coach and Director of Operations. His first full time assistant job came by way of three seasons on the sideline at Belmont. He moved on to SIU Edwardsville in March 2022, and he’s been there since.

I want to go back to the press release for a second here.

During his tenure, SIUE achieved the best winning percentage in Division I (.875) during the 2023 season, subsequently earning recognition as the United Soccer Coaches North Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

That season, Grant helped guide the Cougars to a historic 16-1-3 record, including an undefeated regular season and both Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships. SIUE followed up with a 12-5-3 season in 2024, claiming both the regular season and tournament championships.

What’s the obvious question you have right now? Yep, “Okay, what did SIUE do in 2025? You seem to have skipped out on mentioning that.”

They were 6-11-2, and since the Cougars went 4-4-2 in OVC play and 1-1-0 in the conference tournament, that’s a 1-6-0 mark in non-conference play. I’m all for showing the bright side of life, but let’s put all the cards on the table, eh?

This is particularly relevant information, as Marquette went 1-7-0 in Big East play last season after a 6-0-2 start to the year. I’m not saying Jordan Grant can’t coach some soccer, he probably has forgotten more about the sport than I’ll ever learn. I am saying that Korn and the Golden Eagles really need to have a 2026 season that’s impressive in one way or another, and that 6-11-2 mark isn’t inspiring confidence, that’s all.

After a pair of exhibition matches, Marquette gets the season started for real on Thursday, August 20, when they host Oakland at Valley Fields. First kick is scheduled for 6pm Central.
