Jon Rahm has switched his attention away from Golf to the 2026 World Cup, as he prepares for the Scottish Open.

Mauricio Pochettino’s USMNT side have come under plenty of scrutiny after the defeat to Belgium, despite everything being so positive beforehand.

The USA headed into the game off the back of three wins out of four at the World Cup and 10 goals scored, but everything unravelled against a Belgium side that had the rest of the world behind them.

Donald Trump didn’t help matters by getting FIFA president Gianni Infantino to overturn Folarin Balogun’s one-game suspension after his red card.

But for the neutral, it added a lot of hype behind the clash with Belgium, which even led one of Golf’s biggest names, Jon Rahm, to watch the match.

Jon Rahm praises the USMNT despite World Cup exit

Ahead of the Scottish Open, John Rahm has been speaking to the press, where he gave his thoughts on the display from the USA against Belgium.

“I did watch the Belgium/U.S. game. I obviously saw the score. The U.S. has been doing really good and they have been investing in football for a long time and doing a lot better, but obviously still a little bit to go.

“You play a good national team like Belgium, I think some of the inexperience might show, but they have done a great job until now.”

It wasn’t just the United States that he spoke on, as he also predicted just how far his home country, Spain, will go in the 2026 World Cup.

“With Spain, I feel like it took us a little bit to get going on the match. Portugal went close themselves and tried to defend all the time, but that’s hard to do for 90 minutes or stoppage time or overtime. Unless you’re playing defensively, somebody of the quality of Spain is going to score.

“But we’ll see how it goes. It does remind me a bit of the Euros a few years ago, where they seem to hang on, 1-0, and end up with a trophy, so I hope it repeats itself.”
