A.J. Ewing hit his fifth homer and Francisco Lindor added a run-scoring single in the Mets’ four-run second for a 5-3 lead. Tyrone Taylor homered and Bo Bichette drove in two with a bases-loaded double in the ninth. Bichette had three hits and three RBIs.

The Mets led 10-3 after their five-run ninth but still had to withstand a major scare. Huascar Brazobán gave up five runs, including Drake Baldwin’s grand slam, in the bottom of the ninth. New York closer Devin Williams gave up another run before striking out Dominic Smith with runners on second and third for his 13th save.

The Mets had lost 12 of 14 games, including the first two in this four-game series against the Braves.

McLean (6-5) gave up five hits and three runs, two earned, in six-plus innings.

PIRATES 11, NATIONALS 5

WASHINGTON (AP) — Konnor Griffin had a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning, leading Pittsburgh over Washington in a game in which he was also spectacular in the field.

Brandon Lowe followed Griffin’s key hit with a three-run homer off Brad Lord (5-2) to extend the lead.

Griffin, the 20-year-old who received a nine-year, $140 million contract in April, showed why the Pirates view him as such an important part of their future. He made a diving stop in the third on Curtis Mead’s grounder, but Mead beat the throw for an in-field single.

In the fourth, Griffin had to fight the sun on Keibert Ruiz’s popup to shallow left field, making a diving, backhanded grab. The following inning, he made another backhanded, sliding catch in the outfield, although James Wood was able to tag up and beat the throw home, resulting in a rare sacrifice fly to the shortstop.

REDS 4, ORIOLES 2

CINCINNATI (AP) — Spencer Steer broke up a scoreless game with his 14th home run this season, Nick Lodolo pitched six scoreless innings, and Cincinnati beat Baltimore.

The win avoided a sweep and stopped the Reds’ six game losing streak at home.

Kyle Bradish retired the first 12 Reds of the game but walked Eugenio Suarez to start the fifth before Steer’s homer made it 2-0.

Bradish (5-9) pitched 7 ⅔ innings and allowed three runs and five hits with five strikeouts.

Rookie All-Star Sal Stewart doubled home Edwin Arroyo to knock Bradish out of the game. Stewart has 61 RBI, tied for seventh in MLB and the most by a rookie this season. He is tied for 10th in baseball with 21 doubles, also the most by a rookie.

Lodolo’s string of 14 scoreless innings ended in the sixth inning. Taylor Ward doubled and scored on a single by Coby Mayo with two outs.

Brock Burke made his 44th appearance this season, tied for second most in baseball, when he relieved Lodolo and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh.

TWINS 6, YANKEES 1

NEW YORK (AP) — Joe Ryan scattered three hits in seven scoreless innings and Minnesota won a series at Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2014 with a victory that sent New York to its ninth loss in 10 games.

Ryan (6-5) walked one and tied his season high with nine strikeouts.

The Twins outscored the Yankees 17-5 in the final two games of the series after going 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position Friday.

Byron Buxton left the game after re-aggravating a previous hip injury as he was caught stealing second in the first inning.

Brooks Lee had three hits, including an RBI single in the fourth following a wild pitch by Ryan Weathers (3-7). Royce Lewis had a two-run single in the fifth off Paul Blackburn and the Twins scored two unearned runs off Camilo Doval following an error by Volpe at shortstop.

Volpe committed New York’s 20th error in the last 15 games when he misplayed a high chopper by Ryan Kreidler and the Twins scored on a bases-loaded walk by Austin Martin and a sacrifice fly by Kody Clemens.

The Yankees have allowed 29 unearned runs in their last 15 games.

WHITE SOX 7, GUARDIANS 6

CLEVELAND (AP) — Colson Montgomery hit a two-run homer and Kyle Teel and Tristan Peters added solo shots as Chicago beat Cleveland to split a four-game series between the AL Central’s top teams.

The win moved the White Sox back into first place by one game.

Gabriel Arias belted a three-run homer and rookie Chase DeLauter also connected for the Guardians, who won the first two games on walk-offs.

The finale was delayed by rain and unplayable conditions on the water-logged outfield warning track.

Just before the re-scheduled start, the umpires met both managers in the outfield to inspect the track. The grounds crew then spent 30 minutes applying quick-dry mixture and grooming the track before it was deemed safe.

Down 6-3, the Guardians tied it in the fifth on Arias’ 446-foot drive off Erick Fedde (4-6) and some help from the White Sox.

The White Sox loaded the bases with none out in the sixth against Colin Holderman (4-2) and pushed across the go-ahead run on rookie Sam Antonacci’s fielder’s choice.

Cleveland threatened in the eighth, but Antonacci, who briefly moved from left field to second base before going back to left, ran down Kahlil’s Watson’s deep drive. Sean Newcomb earned his third save.

CUBS 6, CARDINALS 4

CHICAGO (AP) — Nico Hoerner drove in two runs, Pete Crow-Armstrong had two hits, and Chicago rallied for four runs in the sixth inning against a sloppy St. Louis defense to top the Cardinals and avoid a series sweep.

Alex Bregman doubled in a run, pinch-hitter Pedro Ramirez had an RBI and the Cubs posted two unearned runs to win for the 10th time in their last 13 games.

St. Louis’ Jordan Walker hit his 20th homer, a three-run shot in the sixth, then drove in a fourth run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, to boost his RBI total to 67. Rookie JJ Wetherholt and Alec Burleson each had two hits.

After Walker’s drive to deep left put St. Louis ahead 3-2, Chicago took advantage of two Cardinals errors in the bottom of the sixth.

Hoerner tied it 3-all with an RBI single off Matthew Liberatore (4-6). Michael Busch scored to make it 4-3 when third baseman José Fermin threw Dansby Swanson’s double-play grounder wide of second and into right field.

The Royals scored a pair of runs in the first inning when Lane Thomas knocked a two-out double to right-center field. Michael Massey followed with an RBI single.

Philadelphia’s Bryson Stott extended his on-base streak to 12 games with a triple in the fifth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from Gabriel Rincones Jr.

Avila left after the next out.

Phillies starter Aaron Nola (3-6) struck out seven across seven innings, including the last three batters he faced.

Perez sealed the game for the Royals with a two-run double in the eighth inning that scored Bobby Witt Jr. and Thomas.

ASTROS 2, RAYS 0

HOUSTON (AP) — Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes hit solo home runs, and four pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout, and Houston beat Tampa Bay.

Walker led off the fourth inning with his 20th home run of the season, giving him five consecutive 20-homer seasons. Paredes hit his 12th homer to leadoff the sixth.

Peter Lambert (7-5) struck out six while he allowed three hits and walked one over 5 2/3 innings. He was removed with a runner on second base, but Steven Okert got pinch-hitter Ryan Vilade to fly out to end the threat.

Okert pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning, and Bryan King worked around a leadoff single in the eighth before Josh Hader overcame a leadoff walk in the ninth for his ninth save. Hader has allowed one run and two hits over 15 innings this season.

Mason Englert (0-2) allowed the two runs and five hits with a career-high nine strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings after being recalled from Triple-A Durham before the game. Cam Booser and Craig Kimbrel followed and combined to hold the Astros scoreless for 2 1/3 innings.

The Rays have lost back-to-back games after winning nine straight.

ROCKIES 7, GIANTS 6

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Kyle Karros hit a three-run homer to left field in the eighth inning to give Colorado the lead in a victory over San Francisco.

The 471-foot shot off Dylan Smith’s fastball was Karros’ seventh home run of the season and the longest of his career.

With Karros’ homer, the Rockies have 122 runs in the eighth inning or later this season, the highest mark in the majors.

TJ Rumfield had three hits, including his 20th double of the season, and scored twice for Colorado. He has 94 hits, the most by a Colorado rookie before the All-Star Break in franchise history.

Hunter Goodman and Troy Johnston added an RBI apiece for Colorado, which won its ninth series of the season, surpassing its total from the entire 2025 season.

BREWERS 3, DIAMONDBACKS 2

PHOENIX (AP) — Jake Bauers homered off Arizona All-Star Eduardo Rodríguez in the seventh inning and Milwaukee defeated the Diamondbacks.

Bauers hit his team-leading 16th homer to right to chase Rodríguez (7-3). The lefty took a 1-0 lead into the seventh, but Andrew Vaughn led off with a single and Bauer’s blast came on Rodríguez’s 100th and final pitch of the game.

Rodríguez, named to the All-Star Game for the first time in his 12-year career on Saturday, gave up six hits, walked none and struck out three. His ERA rose slightly to 2.25.

Joey Ortiz’s single drove in a run later in the seventh against Kevin Ginkel to make it 3-1, and the Diamondbacks got that run back in their half when Gabriel Moreno beat the relay on a bases-loaded force play.

Drew Rom (1-0), called up earlier Sunday to replace injured Brandon Woodruff, got one out in the sixth. Trevor Megill pitched the ninth for his 13th save.

MARLINS 9, ATHLETICS 8

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Eury Pérez pitched seven perfect innings before getting lifted by Miami manager Clayton McCullough, and the Marlins nearly squandered an eight-run lead Sunday in a victory over the Athletics.

Heriberto Hernández homered twice for the surprising Marlins (49-42), who have won nine of 12 overall after completing a three-game sweep. Leo Jiménez and All-Star shortstop Otto Lopez also went deep.

Lopez, who leads the majors with a .346 batting average, drove in three runs and scored twice. He and Hernández had back-to-back homers in the sixth, and each finished with three of Miami’s 16 hits.

Lopez has 39 multihit games, most before the All-Star break since Houston’s Jose Altuve had 40 in 2014.

Pérez (5-6) struck out a season-high eight and retired all 21 batters he faced. It was the fourth time this year he didn’t walk anyone.

Gabe Speier and Andrés Muñoz each threw an inning of relief for Seattle.

Toronto was shut out in consecutive games for the first time this season and has now won just two of its last 10 to drop six games under .500.
