Things can get late very early around Major League Baseball, which is why teams like the Toronto Blue Jays have to be careful with what they decide to do over the next few weeks.
The Blue Jays, unfortunately, have been killed with injuries throughout a lot of this season. At this point, it really isn't anything that we can even fault them for, as the organization has been derailed by these injuries day in and day out.
At some point, something has to give, and that could mean the Blue Jays don't make the moves everyone wants them to at the trade deadline. 3-7 over their last 10 games and 11.5 games out in the American League East, that team seems to be done.
The Blue Jays are only 3.5 games out in the American League Wild Card, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see them make a move at the deadline.
However, according to the latest from The Athletic, there's still a scenario in which Toronto could decide to move certain pieces off its roster. That's unfortunate to hear, but it isn't the craziest thing considering all the injuries that the Blue Jays have dealt with.
“While the Jays do acquire cheaper rentals, their biggest deadline moves are often for players with multiple years of control, as evidenced by the acquisitions of Varland and Merrifield. If you’re looking for potential Jays deadline adds this year, don’t just scour the rental market.
“If the Jays’ playoff odds have dropped below 10 percent near the deadline, though, as they did in 2024, this front office is willing to sell off all impending free agents,” Mitch Bannon of The Athletic wrote.
Some seasons in Major League Baseball are just a complete wash, and, unfortunately, every team deals with it at some point.
This season was expected to be an exciting one for the Blue Jays, though these injuries are just too much to come back from at some point.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Blue Jays got healthy and started to really figure things out, as there's a ton of talent on this Toronto roster. But time is running out in that regard, and it could lead to moves not all fans agree with.
