Boston's brass reportedly agonized over trading Jaylen Brown; Celtics fans could care less.

Fans of the Boston Celtics likely care little that Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and the Celtics front office reportedly "agonized for days over the decision to trade Brown," according to recent reporting from Boston Globe Celtics beat writer Adam Himmelsbach. This, of course, because they "eventually determined that acquiring valuable assets along with a nine-time All-Star in (Paul) George offered the franchise its best path forward."
It also does not help fans to hear that "Brown, who led the Celtics to 56 wins with Jayson Tatum sidelined for most of the season following an Achilles injury, never requested a trade," and can relate to how he "had grown frustrated with how the Celtics were handling this situation."

Add in that "there was no directive from ownership to trade Brown," and Boston fans have plenty to be irked about.
Especially now that they have a 36-year-old Paul George who has only played at least half the games in the regular season over the last five years of his career, two first round picks and as many second rounds picks for a player who only missed out on being All-NBA First Team because the NBA bent its own rules regarding eligibility.
"The Celtics still intend to build around Tatum, their 28-year-old superstar, and now they will have more avenues," writes Himmelsbach optimistically. They will not, however, have the sort of haul they ought to have gotten for Brown.
Nor the goodwill of an especially large swath of the team's fanbase, nor, next season at least, a shot at a title in Tatum's prime. To that alienated fanbase, these moves had better produce a title or very close to it while the St. Louis native is in his prime, or for all the good Stevens has done since taking on his current role, his legacy will be blowing the best run of Celtics basketball since the 1980s to bits.
