Ulysses Bentley's tenure with the Colts

The Colts signed Bentley as an undrafted rookie following the 2025 NFL draft.

Recapping Ulysses Bentley's 2025 season with the Colts

Bentley was waived during roster cutdowns and then signed back to the practice squad the next day, which is where he spent the 2025 season. Bentley was elevated for the Colts' Week 1 matchup against Miami, where he played two offensive snaps, carrying the ball once for no gain, according to PFF.

Looking ahead to 2026 for Ulysses Bentley

Bentley faces another uphill battle when it comes to making the 53-man roster. While the backup role behind Jonathan Taylor is up for grabs, presumably, it is DJ Giddens and Seth McGowan competing for that role, and whoever loses out on those snaps will likely be RB3. Most NFL teams roster only three running backs.

As recent draft picks, Giddens and McGowan will have the advantage when it comes to making the team. That said, where Bentley can differentiate himself is on special teams and in his ability to impact the passing game.

Realistically, the practice squad is the most likely landing spot for Bentley, but the Colts brought in UDFAs Lincoln Pare and Anderson Castle after the 2026 draft, who could push Bentley for those one or two practice squad spots at running back. That said, Bentley does have experience in Shane Steichen's offense on his side.
