Weather alert: Gauteng set for icy mornings and sub-zero temperatures

Residents across Gauteng should prepare for a dramatic drop in temperatures this week as July begins, with freezing overnight conditions expected from Thursday, according to the South African Weather Service.
The coldest conditions will be experienced in the southern parts of the province, where minimum temperatures are forecast to fall to 0°C or below before gradually recovering over the weekend.

In Pretoria, overnight temperatures are expected to range between 7°C and 10°C early in the week before dropping sharply to between 0°C and 2°C from Thursday into the weekend. Daytime temperatures will remain relatively mild, reaching the high teens.
Cold weather in Gauteng this week
Johannesburg is also set for a bitterly cold spell. Minimum temperatures will range from 7°C to 9°C before plunging to around -2°C on Thursday and Friday. Many areas across the city are expected to experience sub-zero temperatures in the early morning hours.
Maximum temperatures in Johannesburg will hover around 16°C for most of the week, with Thursday expected to be the coldest day, reaching a daytime high of just 13°C.
Conditions are expected to improve from Sunday, with temperatures across Gauteng climbing to around 21°C, as per SA Weather Service. Chilly mornings, however, will persist despite the warmer afternoons.
Beyond Gauteng, the Free State and the Northern Cape are also forecast to experience a significant drop in temperatures from Thursday, bringing freezing mornings as a cold air mass spreads across central South Africa.
