When it was reported that the Golden State Warriors were signing Kristaps Porzingis to a new deal, it seemed to throw a wrench into their big offseason plans of getting LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Essentially, the money on Porzingis' deal was going to make it difficult to pull off any trades, which was particularly notable as far as getting Anthony Davis from the Washington Wizards.
Turns out, though, that Porzingis himself can be traded.
If the Warriors signed him to what officially was termed a new contract, he'd have to wait to be dealt.
But the Warriors announced Porzingis as a contract extension, which means he can be traded now.
"The Warriors have put out a release announcing Kristaps Porzingis' new deal, the significance of which is that it's an extension and not a new contract," The Athletic's John Hollinger wrote on Tuesday night. "Because of that, and the fact his extension did not include a raise greater than 5 percent in the first year, he is trade-eligible immediately. File that away in your Golden State fantasy-team-building-scenarios folder."

Porzingis' deal was reported as being for two years and $40 million, so that's not enough average annual value to approach matching salaries in a trade for AD.
But if the Warriors are thinking about other moves, or potentially want to combine Kristaps in a trade with someone like Moses Moody, they may be able to pull something off.
Obviously, there's nothing wrong with the Warriors keeping Porzingis, hoping he's healthy and seeing what they can give them.
But in the way they've done his contract, they've kept their options open. It'll just keep all the rumors rolling a little bit louder.
