The Jaylen Brown sweepstakes have been heating up. After the Boston Celtics front office led by Brad Stevens failed to land Giannis Antetokounmpo, they are looking towards other teams to shop the 2024 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. The Denver Nuggets were a team that had a lot of interest with the championship-caliber wing but it looks like partnering him up with Nikola Jokic is no longer in the cards.

Nuggets trade pursuit for Celtics' Brown sours

A lot of teams have now reached out to the Celtics and Brad Stevens for Jaylen Brown. As of late, offers have poured from squads like the Portland Trail Blazers and Atlanta Hawks. The Nuggets threw their hat in the mix to make Nikola Jokic team-up with a veteran wing but it looks like discussions have turned cold. It all boiled down to the amount of picks that the Celtics wanted from the Nuggets, per Sam Amick of The Athletic.

"But no realistic star player targets have yet emerged, with the Nuggets’ reported interest in Brown unrealistic because of what they’re able and willing to offer. The Celtics, per league sources, have been asking for up to four first-round picks; Portland is seen as the front-runner there," Amick stated.

The Nuggets are in a constant state of wanting to impress Jokic so that he re-signs before his player option kicks in for the 2027-28 season. If they fail to get something out of him and make their superstar walk in free agency, the Nuggets will be left with not much assets to start a rebuild.

However, reports have surfaced about Jokic being committed to staying with the Nuggets for the long run despite his attitude towards signing a new contract stating otherwise. If it happens that he does score a more expensive deal, the Nuggets front office will have to offload huge contracts just to accommodate the financial demands coming from the superstar.

Only time will tell if Brown does end up with Jokic and the Nuggets. For now, it remains to be a far impossibility.
