Vincent Trocheck and the New York Rangers might have to show off some patience this offseason.

Trocheck is going to be involved in trade rumors, but in some way, he might not control his own destiny.

For starters, he's not actually a player who has to get dealt. The Rangers could hold onto him. He's under contract through 2028-29 at an affordable rate.

But since the trade deadline, there have been discussions of Trocheck getting sent elsewhere, and those whispers haven't gone away.

The problem now is that the Rangers might not be able to trade Trocheck until another move happens first.

That other move? Dylan Larkin.

The Detroit Red Wings' captain has requested a trade. And he plays center, just like Trocheck.

Some of the teams who could want Trocheck might want Larkin more. They could first send in their offer for Larkin, wait to see what happens there, and then potentially circle back to Trocheck.

The Rangers aren't obligated to wait, of course. But they could benefit from holding out, then letting a bidding war ensue once everyone is around to make their best offers.

Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco has reported the Minnesota Wild might want Trocheck -- but they're also on the reported trade request list of Larkin. It seems the Wild would go after Larkin first.

With that in mind, then, the Rangers should stick it out with Trocheck. Nothing is pressuring them to make a move immediately. They probably ought to wait and see what happens with Larkin before they go any further.
