New York government announce giveaway of rare Knicks collectible from NBA Championship parade

New York Knicks fans who didn’t steal the orange and blue litter baskets from their championship parade can now get a chance to own the collectible.
One of the biggest talking points of the Knicks’ 2026 NBA Championship parade were the orange and blue trash bins that went viral and became a fan favorite.

Fans at the parade actually stole some of those bins, prompting NYC Sanitation to make a decision that will help diehard fans get the baskets.
NYC Sanitation announces a giveaway for the Knicks parade litter baskets
NYC Sanitation shared a tongue-in-cheek announcement revealing that five orange and blue litter baskets used at the parade will be given away, along with a link to enter the giveaway.
“No need to Knick a basket! We are giving away five orange and blue litter baskets! These are the real deal. Want a chance to win one? Enter here: http://on.nyc.gov/basketgiveaway“
Their opening pun is a clear reference to the viral video of a JPMorgan executive dumping the contents of a litter bin onto the street so that she could take it home.
Only NY has sold collectible at-home editions of the baskets with a tabletop variant and a regular-sized option.

Knicks might not be able to recreate this moment next season
The championship fever in New York is amazing, but it also might be fleeting. No NBA team has defended its title since 2018, and the early signs of a Knicks title defense aren’t looking great.
Team owner James Dolan has laid out a clear policy forbidding the franchise from going into the second apron of the salary cap, which penalizes teams by restricting team-building mechanisms while also coming with a massive luxury tax bill.
Refusing to enter the second apron basically guarantees the team will lose free agent Mitchell Robinson after his crucial cameo in their title run. It also reduces the chances of New York re-signing Landry Shamet.
New York should enjoy this offseason with special giveaways and commemorations for the now-legendary championship squad, especially because the mood is going to start changing when free agency opens on Tuesday.
