Neuse’s two seasons with the Hanshin Tigers (2023-24) proved to be his last in professional baseball. The 31-year-old infielder announced his retirement in a post to his X account on June 27.
The post was short on sentiment and long on an announcement of his new venture, a roofing company in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Neuse retires with a .212 batting average, seven home runs and 37 RBIs in 147 MLB games with the Dodgers (2021) and A’s (2019, 2022). A second-round draft pick in 2016 out of the University of Oklahoma, Neuse had to wait a while and travel far to achieve his moment of glory in baseball.
In 2023, his first season in Japan, Neuse had a tough regular season with Hanshin. He batted .240 with a .623 OPS and 86 wRC+. Yet he also hit a three-run home run in Game 7 of the 2023 Japan Series that broke a scoreless tie.
Neuse also homered in Game 6 against future Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. When Hanshin defeated Orix in the series, it was their first Japan Series championship since 1985 — and only the second in the history of the franchise, which began play in NPB in 1950.

Neuse spent parts of three seasons in the minor leagues before debuting with Oakland in 2019. He played 25 games as a rookie, slashing .250/.295/.304, and lost the 2020 season when the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the minor league season.
The A’s traded Neuse and Gus Varland to the Dodgers for Adam Kolarek and Cody Thomas in February 2021. Neuse played only 25 MLB games in his only season in the organization. His lasting moment: failing to stretch to receive a throw at second base that could have ended a 3-1 victory over the Giants. The Dodgers ultimately lost that game, 5-3, and Neuse played only three more games a Dodger after that.
Neuse finished his MLB career with the A’s in 2022, when he played 89 games and batted .214 in a utility role. Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Worth retired Neuse’s No. 16 jersey in April.
