Rain had halted Saturday's action after just three games, meaning the pair had to resume on Sunday, and it was world number 48 Bergs who came through 3-6 6-1 6-4 in tricky, blustery conditions

The two players will also meet again on Tuesday in the first round of Wimbledon.

Humbert, ranked 30 in the world and who was chasing his eighth Tour title, had looked the more solid early on, easily wrapping up the first set.

But Bergs started the second set with real purpose and grew into the match, with a double break helping to set up a decider.

He earned the first break points of the third set in the fifth game and although Humbert saved those, he was put under pressure again in his next service game and a forehand miss handed Bergs the advantage.

The Belgian, who had lost his two previous finals in 's-Hertogenbosch and Auckland, showed few signs of nerves after that and when Humbert netted on championship point, he jumped for joy and let out a roar of relief.
