Oklahoma basketball has had a profitable week in the NBA. First, former guard Trae Young signed a massive four-year, $212 million deal to stay with the Washington Wizards. Now, after rumors he might be moving on, former Sooners guard Austin Reaves is expected to sign his own max contract to return to the Los Angeles Lakers.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Reaves intends to re-sign with the Lakers on a four-year $185 million contract with a player option for 2029-2030.

The deal comes after Reaves had a career year. In year five with the Lakers, Reaves set career highs with 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game. His 5.5 assists per game matched his second-best season distributing the basketball.

After playing in a rotational role his first couple of seasons in the NBA, Reaves became a full-time starter late in the 2023-2024 season. He then went on to start 73 games for Los Angeles in 2024-2025 but was limited to just 51 games and 45 starts, suffering an abdominal injury.

He's become one of the most important players on a Lakers roster that features LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Reaves emergence over the last few years gives the Lakers a big three to build around.
