Fired LSU coach Brian Kelly finds new job, but its not on the sideline

Former LSU football coach Brian Kelly has a new gig this fall, but it will be in a broadcasting booth, not on a sideline. Per a report from Front Office Sports, Kelly is set to call Mountain West games for CBS. The report states Kelly will be one part of a three-man broadcasting booth.

Kelly appeared on CBS Sports as an analyst in the days leading up to the NFL Draft. Kelly has also kept busy by doing some unofficial consulting work for Charles Huff's Memphis program.

Kelly spent three and a half years at LSU before he was fired after eight games in 2025. The Tigers began the year ranked in the top 10 with hopes of a College Football Playoff run, but the air was let out of the balloon as LSU's offense sputtered and the Tigers failed to compete with the top of the SEC.

Few coaches have Kelly's track record. Though he's never won a national title, he's appeared in multiple playoffs and led Notre Dame to a national title appearance in 2012. Despite the success, Kelly was not able to land another big-time job after his LSU exit.

LSU owed Kelly a significant buyout to fire the head coach -- upwards of $54 million. However, an offset clause was included, meaning the money Kelly makes from TV or another coaching job eats a portion of what LSU owes.

Kelly went 34-14 in his time at LSU. The Tigers won the SEC West in 2022, and Jayden Daniels won the Heisman and led an exciting offense in 2023, but Kelly couldn't build on that momentum.
