LJ Martin is coming off of being named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year at BYU. He led the Big 12 Conference with 1,305 rushing yards over 236 carries, scoring 12 times. He was one of the most reliably productive running backs in the entire country, ranking fourth among all Power Conference running backs in yards.

Martin returning to Provo for the 2026 was one of the most important developments for the Cougars. He’s on pace to challenge or break school records, including Jamaal Williams’ career rushing mark of 3,901, which Martin is just 1,360 away from matching. From a team perspective, it’s hard to envision the Cougars’ offense without Martin.

Offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick should be thanking his lucky stars that the First Team All-Big 12 running back is running it back in Provo. He could’ve either entered the NFL Draft or gone elsewhere for a big payday in today’s transfer portal era. Instead, No. 4 is back one more time in BYU’s backfield.

The latest version of the EA Sports College Football Football video game, set to be released next month, thinks very highly of Martin. Fans get excited when player ratings are released from games like Madden or NBA 2K for basketball fans. Over the last few seasons that the college football game has returned, college football fans get the same thrill.

They released player ratings for running backs in the game.

Martin checks in at a 92 overall rating, which is very impressive. Only three running backs in all of college football have a higher rating. According to NFLDraftBuzz.com, Martin is the seventh-best running back eligible for the 2027 Draft.

For context, 12 running backs were drafted last season. As long as Martin stays healthy and is close to his 2025 self, he will get serious NFL Draft buzz. Ahead of this season, he is one of the best running backs in the country. BYU fans will enjoy handing the ball off to him while playing College Football 27, since he is one of the best options at running back in the entire game.

Bruce Mitchell is the spearhead of BYU’s stout offensive line. Fresh off being named to the First Team All-Big 12 team, Mitchell returns to the Cougars to lead another crop of solid offensive linemen in Provo. The co-captain was named to the Rimington Trophy Watchlist last season and should be again. College Football 27 has him slotted as tied for the fourth-best rated center in college football.

Certainly, these two offensive stars for BYU have a symbiotic relationship. If Mitchell plays well, that should bode well for Martin having another monster season. While Martin is a talented back, if BYU’s offensive line regresses somehow, it will be hard to replicate 2025’s success. Mitchell is here to make sure that doesn’t happen on his watch.
