Why Matthew Stafford and Myles Garrett will wear special uniform patch in 2026

· Yahoo Sports

The 2026 Los Angeles Rams are set to be the first team in NFL history with the reigning MVP and Defensive Player of the Year on their roster after they made Matthew Stafford and Myles Garrett teammates. As reigning award-winners, Stafford and Garrett will each be recognized by the NFL for their accomplishments last season.

Stafford and Garrett will wear special gold shields on their uniforms in 2026, a cool touch from the NFL to celebrate last year’s MVP and Players of the Year. They’re 2 of 5 players who will wear the gold shield in 2026; the others are Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Offensive Player of the Year), Tetairoa McMillan (Offensive Rookie of the Year) and Carson Schwesinger (Defensive Rookie of the Year).

The Rams shared a first look at the gold patches for Stafford and Garrett on media day.

Stafford and Garrett are both coming off outstanding 2025 seasons, with Stafford beating out Drake Maye for NFL MVP and Garrett running away with Defensive Player of the Year. Stafford led the league in touchdown passes and passing yards, while Garrett set the single-season sack record with 23 last year.

The Rams are going to be tough to beat with the reigning MVP and Defensive Player of the Year on the same team.
