Big Ten program now a 'legitimate threat' to land 2027 5-star CB

· Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M's ongoing battle to land 2027 five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson will reach its conclusion in the coming weeks, knowing that the blue-chip defender will announce his commitment on Wednesday, July 1, but one of the top programs out of the Big Ten has laid out the red carpet this weekend, which could make things interesting down the stretch.

Michigan has been the program to watch since the Aggies received a prediction to land Dobson, and under new head coach Kyle Whittingham, the Wolverines have been even more aggressive, taking advantage of their blue-blood status and development background at the cornerback position. Still, most recruiting experts, including Rivals insider Chad Simmons, still like the Aggies' chances, but it's getting tight.

"The Aggies still have the edge, but Michigan has become a legitimate threat to make this one interesting."

After taking his A&M OV, some, including myself, believed that Dobson was close to shutting down his recruitment and committing to the Aggies, but as we've seen with several of the Aggies' 20 commitments in the class, taking every official visit has become a trend, and no one can blame Dobson for wanting to take advantage of his once in a lifetime chance to visit one of the most historic college football programs.

Third-year coach Mike Elko has not been shy in stating that Dobson is essential to completing the elite secondary haul that already includes safeties Kamarui Dorsey and JayQuan Snell, paired with five-star cornerback Raylaun Henry. This is definitely something to watch, but right now, I agree with Simmons that the Aggies still lead the charge.
