Florentino Perez has won Real Madrid’s presidential election, and with Tuesday now here, all eyes are on how he will live up to his word.

After all, the president promised to make an opening bid worth €150 million for a Galactico signing on Tuesday if he was voted back to power, and it is now time to back it up with real advances.

Michael Olise, in recent weeks, has been linked as the club’s primary marquee target, but his arrival is far more complicated than meets the eye.

Alternatives have thus been identified, and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez is one of the players on that front.

As reported by Mail Sport in a recent update, Chelsea want close to €140 million for Fernandez’s transfer this summer and do not rule out the operation if an equivalent proposal arrives.

They are, in fact, well aware of Real Madrid’s interest and commitment to making a marquee signing. Chelsea are thus waiting to see if Los Blancos make an offer for the midfield star and whether he is the marquee signing Perez openly promised.

Given Chelsea’s price, he fits exactly within the budget Real Madrid have set aside for their star signing. The coming days may well be decisive in the saga of Enzo Fernandez to the Spanish capital.

A conflict of targets

While Enzo may well be Real Madrid’s target, what doesn’t add up in that case is the club’s growing interest in Bernardo Silva.

Given that both players play primarily in the attacking midfield, it would not make sense for Real Madrid to push for the former Manchester City star if they are signing Fernandez anyway, primarily because it would lead to a duplication of profiles.

The idea could well be for them to co-exist, but Fernandez is undoubtedly placed better closer to the box and making such a massive investment to play him out of his position would come across as anti-climactic.
