Why Zac Taylor apologized to Falcons’ Jessie Bates recently

One number change has been the talk of the town around the Cincinnati Bengals as of late.

Cornerback DJ Turner, after all, has swapped to No. 0, complete with him talking about that being his goal for opposing receivers that he lines up against each week.
As it turns out, that number change saw Bengals head coach Zac Taylor giving former safety Jessie Bates a call, too.
"Jessie had always wanted three and I'd always held off,” Taylor said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. "DJ's quote to me was, 'Jessie walked so I could run.' I wasn't ready to crack with Jessie, but over time he wore me down. We just made a decision as an organization to let that happen … Jessie is always great. He's good." …
While small, this is another small way the Bengals missteped with Bates overall, so good on Taylor for making it right, at least on the jersey number front.
Bryan Cook (No. 6) is the Bengals’ latest attempt to fix the Bates mistake on the field and, with Turner, is the first of two defenders to get a single-digit number with the franchise.
