"As I enter this next chapter with CBS Sports and the NFL Today, I'm so blessed to continue doing what I love most, being around the greatest game in the world," he said.
In the video, which featured highlights of his career, he thanked his team-mates, friends and family and gave special thanks to former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.
"Thanks for taking a chance on a young, black kid from Richmond, Virginia, that was told he was too small to ever make it in the NFL."
He also thanked his wife, US R&B singer Ciara, and the sport he dedicated his life to: "Thank you, football. I am forever grateful."
Wilson played 14 seasons in the NFL, 10 of them with the Seahawks, where he won Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013.
Throughout his career, he also played at the Denver Broncos, the Pittsburgh Steelers and, most recently, at the New York Giants.
After his contract with the Giants expired at the end of the 2025 season, Russell, 37, received offers to serve as back-up quarterback elsewhere, but turned them down.
