Teenage girl accused of stabbing three horses at Las Vegas racing event: 'KIND OF SCARY'

A teenage girl has been arrested for allegedly stabbing three horses during a horse racing event in Las Vegas.
The girl, whose name and age have not been released, is facing multiple charges after officers were called to a barn early Saturday following reports that three horses “had been intentionally injured with a sharp object,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in a news release .
How did the incident play out?
Officers arrived at the South Point Hotel Casino & Spa’s equestrian centre around 2 a.m. on Saturday, KLAS reported.
Officials said in a statement that the girl had access to the barn where the attacks on the animals took place.
Investigators believe the teen may have used a knife “to inflict multiple injuries to the horses,” according to the department.
Officers arrested the teen at a nearby hotel.
She was taken to Clark County Juvenile Hall and booked on 12 counts of animal cruelty, as well as three counts of felony malicious destruction of private property.
How are the horses doing?
The injuries sustained by the horses were not considered life-threatening, police said. However, because of their wounds, the horses were unable to compete in the weekend-long competition.
Organizers of the 2026 NBHA Professional’s Choice Vegas Super Show announced on social media on Saturday that a competitor had been “removed and placed in the care of authorities” following an “isolated incident … involving the mistreatment of a limited number of equine athletes.”
The National Barrel Horse Association noted in a Facebook post that there was “no ongoing threat of any kind” at the weekend-long competition.
Organizers added: “We ask for respect and consideration for all involved during this sensitive time.”
‘Kind of scary’
The hotel confirmed in a statement to the outlet that “an incident occurred” in the barns of their equestrian centre.
“The safety and well-being of all guests, participants, and equine athletes on property is our highest priority and we are thankful to report all of the horses involved are safe,” the statement said.
“We want to thank the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the NBHA for their immediate response to this incident, and the South Point is fully cooperating with the LVMPD as it conducts its investigation.”
Cali Raymer, a 17-year-old competitor at the event, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she had spoken to the suspect “a few times” before the incident occurred.
Raymer added: “It’s kind of scary that something like that would happen here.”
