'A legend': Texas softball fans praise Longhorns pitcher after Mississippi State win

· Yahoo Sports

Texas softball is still alive in the Women's College World Series.

The Longhorns shut out a Mississippi State team 4-0 and limited the Bulldogs to just four hits. After falling asleep against Tennessee, the Longhorns bats woke up after left fielder Kaiah Altmeyer's first home run in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Center fielder Kayden Henry followed it in the fifth with a solo shot and shortstop Viviana Martinez's RBI-double in the seventh gave Texas some insurance.

In the circle for Texas was Teagan Kavan who pitched a complete game and through seven innings had two strikeouts and no walks. The right-handed pitcher got her fourth career shutout against the Bulldogs which ties Longhorn softball legend Cat Osterman for shutout wins in the WCWS.

Texas does not play until Sunday and they will play the winner of Arkansas vs UCLA. To repeat as national champions, the Longhorns have to win out.
