Sean Payton on Broncos RB Jonah Coleman: 'He’s looked really good'

· Yahoo Sports

So far, so good for Denver Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman.

Coleman made his debut at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit during rookie minicamp earlier this month, and he'll return for the start of organized team activities (OTAs) next week.

“Good," Denver coach Sean Payton said when asked for his early impression of Coleman at rookie minicamp. "Here is the one challenge with this camp. It’s the only camp that we have in a year where there’s not a Peloton, conditioning-wise. There are guys that are in great shape, there are guys in the middle of the pack and there are guys that are in awful shape.

"Normally, when you go into any camp, you have a group that’s been conditioning, like when we get into OTAs or minicamp in June, there’s a ‘B,’ ‘A’ level of conditioning. There’s a Peloton group. In this camp, it’s always difficult. So a guy like Jonah, his schedule probably was a lot different than some of these other guys. He’s in good shape. There are certain things you want to, when you’re in this type of drill setting, you want to give him. Then he’s picked it up well. He’s looked really good.”

Broncos players don't wear pads at this point in the offseason, so there are limited takeaways from the practices. Coleman apparently arrived in great shape, though, which is a good early sign. Things will start to pick up with OTAs and mandatory minicamp on deck in June, and fans will get their first look in-person at Coleman during training camp, which typically begins in late July.

We'll have a better idea of which rookies are standing out once the pads come on later this summer, but Coleman has made a good first impression.
