Official: Barcelona duo share the Zarra Trophy for 2025-26

Joan Garcia has bagged the Zamora trophy in his first season with Barcelona which comes as a massive testament to his quality. After all, taking home that accolade playing with the team’s high defensive line is easier said than done.

He is, however, not the only player to have finished the season with an individual award to his name.

Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal, after all, were leading the race for the Zarra trophy as the Spanish players with the most goals in this season’s La Liga. The full-time whistle last night, thus, marked their crowning moment.

The top contenders

Kylian Mbappe finished the season as the league’s highest goalscorer by some margin as he scored 25 times for Real Madrid in La Liga. Vedat Muriqi was a close second on 23 goals while Ante Budimir had 17.

None of them, however, are Spanish and thus cannot lay claim to the Zarra trophy. The first candidates eligible for that award are Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres, both of whom have scored 16 goals apiece.

Their nearest competitor was Mikel Oyarzabal who finished the season with 15 goals to his name while Toni Martinez and Borja Iglesias both sit on 14 goals each.

Torres could have been the sole winner

With Lamine Yamal ruled out of the team’s final games of the season including El Clasico, Torres had multiple chances to get ahead of the Spanish winger as the sole winner of the Zarra trophy.

In fact, he started last night’s clash on level terms with Yamal and even a single goal last night would have seen him move clear and lay hands as the sole winner.

Torres, however, could not capitalise on his chances against Valencia. He did assist Robert Lewandowski’s goal, but his inability to score means he now shares the award with his teammate.
