The Cleveland Browns are one of several teams with uncertainty at the quarterback position.

Deshaun Watson will likely start the 2026-27 season as QB No. 1 for the AFC North franchise, but Shedeur Sanders isn’t out of the running just yet. Interestingly, though, Cleveland had interest in adding another signal-caller to the equation this offseason: a 26-year-old Miami Dolphins quarterback.

“The Browns had interest in free agent quarterback Malik Willis but not at the three-year, $67.5 million contract he signed with the Miami Dolphins, according to a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking,” ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi and Jeremy Fowler reported Tuesday.

Signing Willis definitely would have mucked things up in the Browns' QB room entering the 2026-27 season. Willis clearly believes he’s a starting-caliber talent in the big leagues, which is why he left the Green Bay Packers for a new, hopefully more eventful opportunity with the Dolphins.

Willis has only appeared in 22 contests in the NFL thus far (11 with the Tennessee Titans and 11 with the Packers), completing 105 passes for 1,322 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Is the Liberty product still a bit rough around the edges? Yes, but does he possess a unique blend of arm talent and mobility/athleticism that makes him a quarterback worth taking a chance on? Absolutely, giving him a positive long-term outlook at age 26.
