Texas A&M stays pat in latest D1Baseball's NCAA Tournament projection

· Yahoo Sports

No. 9 Texas A&M (39-13, 18-11 SEC) finished off the regular season on a high note, despite allowing over 30 runs against Mississippi State last weekend, winning two of three against the visiting Bulldogs before heading into the SEC Tournament this week. Finishing No. 3 in the SEC standings, the Aggies earned the 3-seed in the tourney and will now face Auburn in the quarterfinals on Friday.

After losing two of three vs. Auburn in Blue Bell Park earlier this month, Texas A&M's pitching rotation will once again be short-handed, as second-year coach Michael Earley stated that sophomore LHP Aiden Sims, who did not pitch last weekend, won't be available during the SEC Tournament, but will work out in the bullpen. The Aggies are a lock to make the NCAA Tournament, but might need a win or two this week to solidify a national seed.

On Thursday, D1Baseball released its latest NCAA Tournament predictions, and similar to last week, the Aggies have not moved from their predicted 8-seed, right on the cusp of hosting a regional, which should be guaranteed after winning six SEC series and finishing with nearly 20 victories in conference play.

Currently predicted to host UC Santa Barbara (25), UTSA, and Lamar, if Texas A&M loses to Auburn on Friday, there is a real chance the Aggies drop out of the national seed conversation, only if other teams that are vying for a top 9 seed make deep runs in their respective conference tournaments. Texas A&M will face Auburn on Friday, May 21, at 7:00 p.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network.
