Fever Fans Outraged Over Team’s Latest Caitlin Clark Announcement

· Yahoo Sports

Given she missed 31 of the team’s 44 games, it’s understandable that the Indiana Fever would want to be careful with star guard Caitlin Clark’s workload.

Clark was limited to just 13 games last season while battling a hand, quad, and two separate groin injuries.

So that might explain the head-scratching move the team made on Wednesday regarding Clark’s playing status.

“Fever guard Caitlin Clark will NOT play tonight vs Portland Fire. I’m told it’s part of a strategic management plan for the season. Tonight is the Fever’s fourth game in eight days,” Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files posted on X.

Fever fans were quick to hit the comment section to express their concern and frustration with Clark’s playing status, and the timing of which the announcement was made.

“You know this doesn’t really look all that great especially right after she just had multiple arguments with coaching staff last game… and NOW there’s this ‘strategic plan’ which entails her not playing…” one fan scoffed.

“This is such [expletive]. I know people who just drove 6 hours and they drop the news now?” another fan stated.

“This is the softest [expletive] I’ve ever seen in my life. The biggest draw in the sport sitting out a home game in the beginning of the season for rest😂😂,” a third fan quipped.

“Not loving this from a fan perspective. I understand the strategy side. Protecting your franchise player over a long season matters more than one regular season game. But this feels a little slimy. Yesterday, they listed no injuries on the report. Then an hour and a half before tipoff, they rule out the biggest box office player in the sport due to a ‘strategic management plan for the season,’” one user remarked.

“[Expletive] the Fever. I drive over 2 hours to attend- they should have announced when they knew,” another user snarked.

“Getting hard to be supportive of this organization. Why was this not announced earlier?” asked one fan.

Despite Agness’ report, Fever head coach Stephanie White refuted that the team was “managing” a specific issue with Clark.

“She’s healthy,” White said. “We’re not managing anything. This is just a back issue that we want to make sure we give the time to be ready.”
