Barcelona on the lookout for a new left-back heading into the summer – Romano

As has been widely reported, the Catalans plan on signing a new centre-forward, with Robert Lewandowski seemingly on his way out, and also a top centre-back.

Barcelona also in the market for a left-back

Now, though, Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona are also keeping an eye on the market for a new left-back.

Indeed, the Blaugrana are scouring all of Europe for potential reinforcements in the left-sided full-back position, which does raise questions about the future of the current options in the role.

Alejandro Balde has lost his place in the starting XI to on-loan star Joao Cancelo, who the Catalans intend to sign permanently from Al-Hilal at the end of the season.

Gerard Martin, on the other hand, has established himself in the centre-back role, putting in brilliant performances alongside Pau Cubarsi.

The fact that the Catalans are looking for a new player in the position might suggest that they would be open to offers for Balde.

The La Masia graduate, for his part, has not expressed any desire to leave the club, but should a good offer come along, the club could study it.

Balde has attracted interest from the Premier League, where clubs like Manchester United and Aston Villa admire the Spaniard.

As for Barcelona, players like Alejandro Grimaldo and Marc Cucurella, both former La Masia trainees, have been linked with a potential return in the summer.

It remains to be seen whether Barcelona do follow through and sign a new left-back or are happy to continue with Balde and only work on bringing in Cancelo permanently.
