Pace boys weightlifting sweeps state titles for 3rd straight year

Pace remains the high school weightlifting capital of Florida.

Just three months after the Patriots girls weightlifting teams won their fourth straight traditional state title and third straight Olympic state championship, the Patriots boys weightlifting swept both championships for the third straight year on Thursday at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.

The Patriots scored 42 points in the Olympic competition, while Spruce Creek finished runner-up for the second straight year with 25 points. Kollin Daniels (139 pounds), Ryan Harrigill (154), Grady White (183) and Jake Box (219) won state titles.

Pace scored 29 points to win the traditional title, while Spruce Creek finished second with 20 points. Daniels (139) and Harrigill won state titles to sweep their respective weight classes and Alex Gomez (199) also finished atop the podium.

Pace has now won 11 boys weightlifting state titles, winning eight traditional titles and three Olympic state titles. Patriots head coach Ty Wise has won 14 state championships, winning seven with the boys team and seven with the girls team.

  • 219: Jake Box, Pace (620 pounds, 275 snatch, 345 clean)

Traditional

  • 139: Kollin Daniels, Pace (555 pounds, 280 clean, 275 bench)
  • 154: Ryan Harrigill, Pace (635 pounds, 320 clean, 315 bench)
  • 199: Alex Gomez (720 pounds, 325 clean, 395 bench)
