From his first selection in Round 1 to the final pick, Kansas City made on Day 3, Veach's outstanding ability to evaluate collegiate talent made for exciting additions that are sure to get the Chiefs back to contending status next season.
Veach's decision to trade up to the No. 6 overall selection for former LSU Tigers defensive back Mansoor Delane stands out as his boldest move in the 2026 NFL Draft.
After picking Delane, Veach made a concerted effort to invest in Kansas City's defense by picking Clemson Tigers defensive lineman Peter Woods, Oklahoma Sooners pass-rusher R Mason Thomas, and Oregon Ducks defensive back Jadon Canady with the Chiefs' next three picks.
When defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's needs had been addressed, Veach went all-in to add depth to the Chiefs' backfield, receiving corps, and quarterback room. His selections of former Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Emmett Johnson and Cincinnati Bearcats wideout Cyrus Allen in Round 5 will provide Patrick Mahomes with two exciting new weapons who can aid in his return to the field.
Seventh-round pick Garrett Nussmeier — the second LSU Tiger taken off the board by Veach — was among the most established quarterbacks in his class, and was once thought to be a prospect with early-round upside. If he develops into a capable backup behind Mahomes, Veach's final pick in the 2026 NFL Draft may prove to be the best, in the long run.
