Cyclones fall to No. 19 Cowgirls in series finale

Tatum Johnson launched a two-run home run, but Iowa State could not overcome an early offensive surge from No. 19 Oklahoma State, falling 9-2 Sunday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The Cyclones (24-17, 5-10 Big 12) struggled to contain a Cowgirl lineup that produced 14 hits despite 30 mph winds. Oklahoma State (27-11, 9-6 Big 12) built a commanding 8-0 lead by the middle of the fourth inning, scoring in three consecutive frames.

Jessie Clemons led the Iowa State offense with a 3-for-4 performance, including two doubles. Her second double in the fifth inning set the stage for Johnson, who cleared the fence to provide the Cyclones’ only runs of the game. Kadence Shepherd and Karlee Ford each added singles to the seven-hit total for the home side.

The Cowgirls were powered by Amanda Hasler, who recorded three RBIs and a home run, and Aubrey Jones, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Claire Timm added two doubles and an RBI to the Oklahoma State tally.

Ruby Meylan (17-6) earned the complete-game victory for Oklahoma State, allowing seven hits and striking out five. Jaiden Ralston (1-5) took the loss for the Cyclones after facing one batter in the second inning. Lauren Schurman threw 5.1 innings of relief, recording three strikeouts.

The game was attended by 302 fans and completed in 2 hours and 7 minutes. Iowa State finished the day with one error and left six runners on base.
